Yoga isn't about flexibility

One of the questions I hear far too often is: “Do I need to be flexible to do yoga?”

The truth is that despite flexibility may help in some yoga poses, yoga is not about how flexible you are and you definitely don’t need to be flexible to practice yoga.

One of yoga’s main benefit is to give you the opportunity to slow down and feel your body. Yoga also gives you the chance to come to the mat, leave all your thoughts and mind chatter behind, listen to your breath and become aware of your body parts while moving through different asanas (postures).

The more you practice, the easier it becomes to feel this awareness. And with time, you then start feeling the benefits.

Amongst reducing stress, building strength and perfecting your posture, yoga nourishes your body and mind. After a yoga session you will feel relaxed, refreshed and energised.

If at all there’s anything about flexibility, yoga it improves it over time, but the focus during your practice should just be to be present in the moment and breathe while moving your body. Everything else will come with time.
